Personal Statement

My name is Yilmaz Koylu and I am a 4th year PhD student in the Department of Second Language Studies at Indiana University. I have an undergraduate and a master’s degree in English Language Teaching from two different universities in Turkey, where I also worked as an instructor of English for 6 years. I got a Fulbright scholarship in 2011 to study in the US. In my third year at Indiana University, I taught an education course for undergraduate students. Since the summer of 2014, I have been teaching Reading and Writing in the Intensive English Program at IU. My academic research interests lie in the field of acquisition of first and second language syntax and semantics and as well as language pedagogy. My hobbies include competitive ballroom dancing and learning languages.
